Transformation To Private LTE/5G Networks

When the US’s Federal Communications Commission (FCC) unlocked the Citizens Broadband Radio Service (CBRS) spectrum for commercial use, it opened an exciting opportunity for organizations to deploy private LTE/5G networks.

Why CRBS and Not WiFi?

Due to the shared spectrum model of CBRS and the advantages of private LTE/5G compared to WiFi networks in terms of security, speed, quality and performance we see an increased adoption of the technology from large enterprises, SMBs and even households.

  • Network slicing with customized QoS and SLA for each application/device.
  • Dedicated radio for network connections enhances network security.
  • High capacity with many simultaneous connected devices.
  • High-speed connectivity with long signal range and seamless handovers.

The Rise of Unlicensed Private LTE Networks

The use cases umbrella for private LTE networks is massive. From private networks in geographically restricted LTE areas to licensed organizations who wish to extend their network footprint, industrial deployment and more. One of the most popular new use cases for CBRS is LTE-U (unlicensed). The Monogoto Private LTE solution aims to help those organizations who wish to deploy private LTE networks under the GAA unlicensed rules. A network which functions as a WiFi network but with additional brain and muscle.

Private LTE Use Cases

Private LTE/5G uses dedicated equipment and is independent of traffic fluctuation. By focusing on specific IoT applications and services, Private LTE/5G networks are the ultimate solution for organizations who need an independent enterprise-grade wireless network with all the benefits of LTE, such as: data privacy, enhanced security, network flexibility, low latency, quality of service, network resiliency, and cost-effectiveness. The new era of private LTE/5G opens opportunities for multiple applications with a different class of service. Global enterprise organizations, utilities and mining industries, airports, ports, sport facilities, campuses and more are already adopting this technology, reducing costs, and increasing efficiency.

How to Set Up a Private LTE/5G Network?

In order to set up a private LTE/5G network you need to consider the following three main elements:

  • Radio equipment indoor or outdoor small cell antennas (LTE eNodeB, 5G gNodeB) to cover the desired area.
  • Cellular Core: which will act as the main network controller (user database, network and security policies, OSS/BSS, mobility and more)
  • SIM: which includes the private network profile and which communicates with the cellular modem

The following diagram illustrates a high-level private LTE/5G solution by Monogoto. In this case, the Monogoto SIM cards, cloud EPC and management console are integrated with a third party small cell radio for indoor/outdoor use cases.
